In the thick of things in San Diego, CA

All of the terns and skimmers are well on their reproductive way. The Elegant Tern colony is the largest it has ever been in San Diego- we counted a minimum of 49,129 active nests! Gull-billed Terns have 25 active nests, although there are a couple that have renested so I am estimating 27 breeding pairs. The chicks for both Elegant and Gull-billed terns are in the midst of hatching looking cute and fuzzy! We are up to 35 Black Skimmer nests. They will start hatching late June.
