Quantitative data analyses

I work with GPS telemetry, satellite tracking, and other movement or behavioral datasets to answer specific management and research questions. Services include:

  • Home range and space use estimation (KDE, aKDE, adeHabitat)

  • Behavioral state classification from tracking data (hidden Markov models)

  • Habitat selection and resource use analysis (hierarchical models, iSSA)

  • Stable isotope mixing models for diet and habitat connectivity questions (MixSIAR, SIBER)

  • Mixed-effects modeling (GAM, GLMMs, binomial, and multinomial logistic regression)

  • Migration phase detection and stopover/wintering site delineation

  • Spatial clustering and site-use pattern analysis (recursion analysis, DBSCAN)

Report Writing & Analysis Support

Good analysis only has value if it’s communicated clearly. I write in plain, direct language and aim for results that are usable by the people who need to act on them, whether that’s a peer reviewer or a field manager. I provide:

  • Technical reports for agencies, funders, and land managers

  • Peer-reviewed manuscript preparation and co-authorship

  • Editing and critique of existing drafts, from framing through statistical reporting

  • Lay summaries and plain-language translations of technical findings for non-specialist audiences

  • Figures and visualizations built for publication or presentation.

3

Project Design & Implementation

Whether you’re scoping a new monitoring program or trying to get more out of an existing dataset, I can help with:

  • Study design and sampling strategy for movement and demographic studies

  • Telemetry program design (tag selection, deployment strategy, data management planning)

  • Grant and proposal development support

  • Bridging the gap between academic research methods and field-level implementation

4

Training & Capacity Building

Agencies and organizations often have staff or students who could take on more analysis in-house with the right training. Training can be delivered as one-to-one, standalone workshop or built into a larger analysis or project design engagement, so your team retains the capacity to continue the work after I’m gone.

I offer:

  • Hands-on workshops in R for ecological data analysis

  • Training in bird capture and handling, telemetry data processing, and movement analysis workflows

  • Guided instruction in analyses.

  • Custom training tailored to fit project needs.
